School holiday activities

There are lots of free and low cost family-friendly activities that take place in Leicester over the school holidays.

Saturday 15 February

  • Cabinet of Curiosity
    Bring your family and friends and join the team from Leicester Museums & Galleries to see and handle fascinating museum objects from the technology and natural history collections. There's something to interest all ages!
    • Drop in between 11am and 4pm at Beaumont Shopping Centre
  • Leicester Comedy Festival - House of Twaddle
    If you don't know the difference between Bum Fodder, Fartleberries and Trundlers then this fun-packed family game show will keep you all entertained. 
  • Leicester Comedy Festival - The Silliad: Improvised myths and legends
    Why do geese fly south for the winter? What's really inside an Oreo? You suggest the question, then watch it be answered through myth, mayhem and madness!
  • Let's Ride - Joe Orton Ride
    A fascinating journey exploring the life and work of acclaimed 1960s playwright, Joe Orton. Discover where Orton grew up, explore his local library and learn about the books he borrowed, and visit the theatre that ignited his passion for drama. Hear extracts from his unpublished teenage diary and uncover his legacy in the city. 

Sunday 16 February

  • The Story Forge: Make your own myth
    Help shape the stories, and even become the hero yourself (if you want, no pressure) as the combined comic forces of Rubbish Shakespeare and Silly History Boys bring you an EPIC interactive experience.  You’d be mad to myth it!

Monday 17 Februay

  • Dog's Trust - How to be a dog's best friend
    A free session to help children understand how to behave around dogs and how to be kind to their four-legged friends.
  • Joke Spot for Kids
    Take the mic and become a comedian. Delivered by The UK Kids Comedy Festival
  • Simple Science - Gangsta Granny
    Create an alarm system to prevent 'Gangsta' crooks stealing the Crown Jewels - inspired by the book Gangsta Granny by David Walliams.

Tuesday 18 February

  • Decorate you own wooden hanging charm
  • Joke Spot for Kids
  • Make a clay grotesque
    • Drop in from 1.30pm to 3.30pm at Leicester Cathedral
    • 3+, all children must be accompanied by an adult
  • Make your own crown jewels
    Arts and crafts session to make your own papercraft 'Crown Jewels.
  • Make your own dream catcher
  • Paper beads
    Create bracelets and phone decorations, or other imaginative accessories by upcycling magazines and adding decorations.
  • Paper crafts
  • Puppets playtime
    Create different puppets to take home or make your own movable card character. Children’s activities also include trails and storytelling.
  • Railway day 
    Enjoy a ride on Peter the Narrow-Gauge Railway this half-term. There is a small charge for train rides (50p per person), and children under 3 years can travel for free.

    • Drop in from 10am to 12noon at Belgrave Library
    • 3+, all children must be accompanied by an adult

Wednesday 19 February

  • Blast off to fun!
    Enjoy free half term activities, free space craft workshop, alien walkabouts and space activities from the National Space Centre

  • Fabulous Frivolous Fun February
    Design your own fun book bag, disguise yourself with frivolous masks and have a fabulous time crafting the time away.

    Ramadan and Eid themed arts and crafts.

    Be part of our six week Lego Coding Club.

Thursday 20 February

  • Frosty fun day
    Have a go at creating a winter wonderland whether it’s frosty or not!  Join in on the annual “snowball” fight in the Great Hall!  Lots of frosty crafts, make an icy crown, snowflake wand and a penguin cup and ball game.

    Join in with a range of crafts based around the Lunar year of the snake, including paper chain and pipe cleaner snakes.

  • Steam toys in action
    Join us for a nostalgic day out for all the family, step back in time and enjoy the fantastic variety of steam powered engines, toys, boats and trains on display. Visitors will have the chance to see the majestic steam powered Beam Engine in action and take a ride behind the Steam Locomotive.
